The weather was on our side on an amazing day for the 25th anniversary of the Waterford Fall Foliage Road Race. It was great to have the community gather on the Common for the celebration, which included the Waterford /Harrison PTO Chili cook-off and KLA raffle.
This year we honored our 25-year founding sponsors: Neon Blane Signs, Camp Wigwam, Jeff Ward Excavation Inc., Thunder Hill Farm LLC, and Waterford Properties, as well as our founding race director Martha Eaton, for their continuing support and commitment to the road race that raises money for the Tony Waldeier Scholarship Fund.
The race, always held on the second Sunday in October, is made possible by the efforts of the race committee and volunteers from the community; sponsorships and donations; t-shirt sales; and most importantly, the runners’ registrations. The Tony Waldeier Scholarship Fund has awarded 134 scholarships in 25 years.
Thirteen chilies were entered in the Chili Cook-off, and 204 votes cast. Jacqui and Tom Fanning of Waterford took 1st, Sierra Schutt 2nd, and Dottie Bell of Thunder Hill Farm 3rd.
Also honored for their 20+ years of support were the Race Committee, registration team, and many volunteers — including Jacqui Fanning, our postmaster, who has been directing runners to the finish line for 25 years, and retiring committee members George and Roxanne Ames. Special thanks to Mt. Tire’m Masonic Lodge 132 for donating the pumpkins for the kids, and to the Waterford Fire Dept. and Stoneham Rescue for keeping us safe. And finally, thank you to our amazing community for coming out to celebrate the 25th Anniversary!
